Happy Mother's Day

Photos by Mark M. Hancock / © The Beaumont Enterprise

Lynn Billiot (left) gives her son driving directions while her daughter Dustye Billiott (right) nervously awaits a family reunion at Ford Park in Beaumont on Saturday, May 7, 2005.

Lynn Billiot runs into the arms of her son Sgt. Danny Billiott near the Ford Arena in Beaumont on Saturday, May 7, 2005. Sgt. Billiott has been serving in Iraq since September of 2004, his homecoming made Billiot's Mother's Day complete after losing a grandson and daughter within the last year.

Note: Lynn Billiot spelled her children's names with two "t"s (Billiott) after she noticed the spelling on a family member's gravestone.

Nice catch of emotions. I like the movement in the second frame.

I like the small-town, almost 1950s Fourth of July-parade-on-Main-Street kind of feeling in the first photo. The clasped hands are great, capturing that sense of waiting nervously.

Nice flash exposure on the second one as well.

Weird about the names, but a good catch and a perfect example of why it's important to spell names out loud to the subjects, even if you think you know it, even if it's your mama. Better to look like an idiot to one person than to prove it in print for the world to see.
