Trinity bridge inspection


Traffic continues to cross the Trinity River bridge as TXDOT engineers inspect it in Chambers County on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007. A new bridge is under construction to replace the aged bridge.

TXDOT engineers inspect the Trinity River bridge in Chambers County. The tragic bridge collapse in Minnesota has prompted officials to inspect all bridges currently in service.



Guard rail damage is evident as TXDOT engineers inspect the Trinity River bridge in Chambers County. The Trinity River bridge is the southernmost connection from Southeast Texas to the Greater Houston metro area.

I noticed some guardrail damage last weekend. That bridge is nervewracking but not nearly as bad as the Rainbow was back in the day. I like to have died from fright when my drivers' ed teacher made a classmate drive over it on her very first trip behind the wheel. For those who don't know this was the tallest bridge in the South and had a single lane in each direction with no divider. :D

I can't imagine Rainbow as a two-way bridge. It's barely wide enough as a one-way bridge.
For a scare, check out Lake Charles' bridge. I walked over it after Hurricane Rita. Wow. The rusted-through areas make you think.
