Aubrey Dixon is not only a highly decorated WWII veteran, and the epitome of a lifelong firefighter, he is also my dad and personal hero. He entered Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont, TX 2/4/11. As a man who spent his life quietly in the corners, speaking only with something important to say, and leading privately and professionally a life that was both non-judgemental and exemplary, it is a near impossibility to find a soul who does not speak of him with a quiet note of respect in their tone.
Even as he enters this fading time of his 94 years, he is only more expressive of the love and care he feels for us all...including the steady stream of "bunker-coated brothers", who regale him with stories of all those favorite years with his fire-fighting family. While we can never thank all the friends and family who have been there in this time of need, those gentlemen give him gifts without equal with every visit and hand held. I know we would all like to think of our father's as someone exceptional, but the gifts of personal time these gentlemen continue to give in attribute to the life my dad has lived is something our family will continue to bless them for forever. Thank you, Deana McMahon
