Obama speaks in Beaumont

Videos by Mark M. Hancock / © The Beaumont Enterprise

Sen. Barack Obama gives a speech in Beaumont on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008. This is the almost complete "short" stump speech for the many folks who couldn't attend the "sold out" (tickets were free) town hall meeting.

Sen. Barack Obama answers a critic's question about his experience during a town hall meeting in Beaumont. Texas primary elections and caucuses will be held Tuesday.

Please read, "Obama star power packs Julie Rogers Theatre..." by Dee Dixon, Jemimah Noonoo and Rose Ybarra.

Please also see Hillary Clinton's speech.

Great video coverage, Mark! Loved the second video, as you provide a nice overall package: a question question (albeit a bit of a softball) and complete answer by Obama in a short span. Did you take any stills of this event? I am assuming you did.

I always find it ironic when I see vids like this from the "real media", where you are ostensibly hundreds of feet away from the subject, but everyone else (read the public) have their own cameras just mere inches or several feet away.

Not that this is bad or sinister, but the ubiquity of digital coverage is overwhelming. I know, this is not a new idea or comment on the digital age. But seeing all the cameras in the background in this video, it is very evident.

Any other campaigning politicians lined up for Beaumont, Texas in the near future?

Thanks John,
Ticket demand for the event was very high and "sold out" within minutes. The editors wanted to capture the entire speech for the folks who didn't get to attend, so I took the Book TV approach rather than trying to collect lots of cuts for a shorter piece.
I made stills as well, but as you point out, I was half a theater away monitoring video. Consequently the backgrounds are cluttered with other people and uninspiring.
Guisseppe had the 400mm f/2.8 and got better angles because he was more mobile. I'm jealous of his shots.
Bill Clinton was here last week. He's expected to return on Sunday, but Southeast Texas doesn't appear to be worthy of a Hillary visit. I think McCain and Huckabee don't know Beaumont exists and probably couldn't point to it on a map.

Correction: Southeast Texas is worthy of a Hillary visit after all. She'll be here on Monday - the day before the primary.
We still haven't heard from Ralph (Lauren or Nader). ;-}
