Civic cowboys

William Roberts (right) waits atop Dakota, 2, as John Venice (left) mounts Doc, 4, at the Beaumont Civic Center in downtown Beaumont Saturday, June 18, 2005. The riders and their mustangs had attended the Juneteenth Blow Out at Riverfront Park.

Way to emasculate a cowboy's ruggedness ... frame him under a pretty flower tree. j/k

I like it. Good job also in getting the ages of the Mustangs. Not many would think to do that.

I thought of the framing as a colorful, contrasting juxtaposition. I hadn't thought of the machismo factor. I can't imagine cowboys having manhood issues though. :-)

Although it's not in the AP Stylebook, I've always gotten the name, age and breed of domestic animals.
"Cow No. 1284" doesn't add much to a cutline, but "Bessie, a 4-year-old black angus," does.
