Ask a question:   Todd Heisler

Ever wanted advice from a Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist? Well, here’s your chance again. Todd Heisler of The Rocky Mountain News won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography this year. He has agreed to an interview on Monday.

Leave your questions in the comment section or drop me an e-mail. I plan on asking the standard "what advice would you give to young PJs" question, I'll also ask specifically about access and planning for his story, but this is a chance for y'all to ask a specific question and get a specific answer.

Please leave your questions by Sunday, May 14, 2006.

Please also see other interviews with previous winner David Leeson and current winner Michael Ainsworth for example questions.

Enough for now,

Congratulations, Todd, on your Pulitzer. Your photos were very moving and showed many elements of what the families (and community) endured during the funeral and ceremonies.

Could you talk about your own emotions as you covered these events? How did these instances affect you, and did your emotions impact the way you approached a photo?

A lot of us have covered funerals, or tragic events where emotions are high. Could you talk about how the families reacted to your presence, and how you handled it?

Also, how did the military react to your presence, and how did you handle that?

Thanks Todd.

One more question: With all the technology and capabilities of digitally altering images, much has been made of ethics in photojournalism.

Could you stress, particularly to young PJs who are entering the field, how important it is to follow a code of ethics, such as what's provided by the National Press Photographer's Association.

Great opportunity, thank you for sharing it with us. My question is how did you start your career as a photojournalist and what was your first proffesional assignment?

Can't wait to see the interview!

Regards,
Steve Newman

Some successful photojournalist say early in their career they hope to change the world with their images and then later in life they feel unfulfilled because little has changed. Do you feel fulfilled with your work?
