Comedy, Texas owner Slade Ham lights up a cigarette during a rare performance at his filled-to-capacity club in Beaumont on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006. It has been four months since the City of Beaumont ordained a total smoking ban. Ham was able to smoke during his act under a "performance" provision in the ordinance.
Madison's on Dowlen has spent a lot to make their outdoor patio comfortable for smokers at the club in Beaumont on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006. The smoking area has the same features and services as the indoor bar area.
Tammy Krause of Beaumont and Chris Lanclos of Lumberton smoke in the outdoor patio area at Madison's on Dowlen. The club had to hire additional bar and wait staff to handle the smoking section.
Despite winter temperatures, guests mingle and smoke in the outdoor patio at Madison's on Dowlen. The outdoor area features gas-powered area heaters to keep customers comfortable.
Comedy, Texas owner Slade Ham laughs and smokes a cigarette during a rare performance at the club. Ham backed a petition drive to overthrow the ban, but after out-of-town residents were eliminated the petition lacked enough signatures.
