These birds have a body about the size of a flamingo and get their color from eating shrimp (like flamingos). They also have a hilarious “la la la la la” call. Fay can imitate it well, but my Texas speech pattern is too slow to handle it (I took her there on Sunday to show her the alligators.).
I shot this image while I was on a ride along my first week here. Scott did all the work while I got to make images of some cool birds.
The sanctuary is about 30 minutes from Beaumont. Bird watching season is barely kicking off as the birds make the trek back north. This place is world renown for its density and variety of bird species. While we were shooting, we bumped into serious birders from Japan and Norway. One person described it as the "Superbowl of bird watching."

Nice picture. You are doing a very nice job of presenting Beaumont as THE place to live. It sounds like a great city...
It seems great so far, but I might be seeing the screensaver. ;-}
I don't know much about the school district or city government yet. However, I've had great cooperation from both entities this week.
Since Beaumont is a historic city with sea air, there's a bit more rust than I'm accustomed to seeing in a much more arid environment with a newer infrastructure. But, it looks like some paint and a neighborhood cleanup could fix many of these issues with little effort.
